Digital Swatching

Here's a way to keep track of projects in a digital archive.
When I knit a gauge swatch, I arrange the swatch, the band or other tag that identifies the yarn and a tape measure on my scanner and take a scan. I now have a digital record of that yarn. I can tag the document (which can be saved as a jpg or a pdf, or placed in a Word document) with keywords like the yarn's weight, color, gauge, the pattern it's intended for--anything I might want to sort my collection by later. I can  also print the document later and have a good record of the gauge (thanks to the tape measure). The only thing missing is the way the yarn feels.
